KATIE WINKLER, TEACHER AND PUBLISHER CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS

Katie Winkler is calling for submissions from teachers of writing for Teach.Write.: A Writing Teacher's Literary Journal.

Submissions for the Spring/Summer 2019 issue is now open and will close on March 1, 2019. 


IMPORTANT UPDATE:  Katie says: I have also decided to OPEN UP SUBMISSIONS TO ALL. I realized that writing students (virtually everyone has been a writing student) as well as teachers need to have a voice in Teach. Write. However, I do request that in your required third person bio you include your composition teacher experience, if you have any, or explain the impact writing instruction has had on you. I am open to both positive and negative experiences as long as you don’t blame English teachers for everything that has gone wrong in your life.

Joint Poetry reading to be held at City Lights Bookstore, Sylva, NC, Saturday, September 15, 2018

Poets Catherine Carter, Mary Ricketson, and Joan M. Howard will visit City Lights Bookstore on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at 3:00 PM, for a poetry reading. The reading is free of charge and open to the public.

Catherine Carter has written three collections of poetry and directs the English Education program at Western Carolina University. Her work has appeared in Poetry, Orion, Ploughshares, Cider Press Review, Cortland Review, North Carolina Literary Review, and Best American Poetry 2009, among others. Her full-length collections of poetry include The Swamp Monster at Home (LSU Press, 2012) The Memory of Gills (LSU, 2006), and Larvae of the Nearest Stars (forthcoming from LSU, fall 2019.

 

Mary Ricketson of Murphy NC, has been writing poetry for 20 years; to satisfy a hunger, to taste life down to the very last drop. She is inspired by nature and her work as a mental health counselor. Her poetry has been published in Wild Goose Poetry Review, Future Cycle Press, Journal of Kentucky Studies, and the anthologies, Lights in the Mountains, and Echoes Across the Blue Ridge. Her two collections are Freeing Jonah, and her chapbook I Hear the River Call My Name. 

Joan Howard is a retired teacher who lives in Hiawassee and Athens GA.  Her poetry has been published in Poem, The Road Not Taken: The Journal of Formal Poetry, the Aurorean, Lucid Rhythms, Victorian Violet, The Wayfarer, The Deronda Review and other literary journals.She has two books: Death and Empathy: My Sister Web and Jack, Love and the Daily Grail.

Janice Moore & Robert Kendrick at Writers' Night September 14

Janice Townley Moore, who lives in Hayesville, NC, is an Atlanta native and Associate Professor Emerita of English at Young Harris College. Her poetry chapbook is Teaching the Robins (Finishing Line Press) and her work has appeared in esteemed journals including The Georgia Review, Prairie Schooner, Shenandoah, Connecticut Review, Southern Poetry Review, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and numerous others. Among the anthologies that include her poetry are The Bedford Introduction to Literature and three volumes of The Southern Poetry Anthology (Contemporary Appalachia, Georgia, and North Carolina) from Texas Review Press. Moore serves as the coordinator of the North Carolina Writers Network poetry critique group, which meets at Tri-County Community College.

Robert Lee Kendrick grew up in Illinois and Iowa, but now calls Clemson, South Carolina home. After earning his M.A. from Illinois State University and his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina, he held a number of jobs, ranging from house painter to pizza driver to grocery store worker to line cook. He now teaches. Kendrick’s poems appear in Birmingham Poetry Review, Valparaiso Poetry Review, Atlanta Review, Tar River Poetry, Louisiana Literature, and elsewhere. His first full-length collection, What Once Burst With Brilliance, was released in 2018 by Iris Press. His chapbook is Winter Skin (Main Street Rag Publishing, 2016).
