When images of people become real, and speak clearly to me from the poet's words, I feel connected to the writer in a unique way. "Yes!", I want to say; "That is the way it is, isn't it?" In her honest and simple way, Glenda can bring you to tears, or make you smile. You feel her deep love for her family, and for the land where she put down deep roots. Carole Richard Thompson has been a member of the NCWN for over 10 years. She writes poetry and short stories, a number of which have been published. She and her husband, Norman, retired and moved to Blairsville, GA 20 years ago. She has taken several writing classes from Nancy Simpson Brantley, and hopes to take many more!
Thanks Carole for sharing your favorite. Hey! We think alike, but that is no surprise to me. What I believe about Glenda Barrett is that there are so few Appalachian born and raised poets, especially women born and raised Appalachian poets. I know of almost none. Barrett stands out because she did the work and it is in print for all to read.
