Curiosity Shop Bookstores in Murphy and Andrews, NC
sent their upcoming events list.


Friday, 5/29 - 5-7pm Hondo will be playing music at The Shoppes of Murphy.
5pm - Relay for Life in Konehete Park, Murphy

Saturday, 5/30 3-4pm The Bear Notes will play music at our Andrews location.

Saturday, 6/6 11:00am-1:00pm Senator Zell Miller will be in our Murphy store to sign his book, Purt Nigh Gone
The Murphy Spring Fest takes place that day downtown.
(If you can't be here that day and want him to sign a book, you may purchase in advance and we'll take care of it)!

Saturday, 6/13 11am-1pm Senator Zell Miller will be in our Andrews store.

Saturday, 6/20 6pm - 11pm Andrews "Cruise Night". Join us on our deck to watch the action!!

Curiosity Shop Bookstores in Murphy and in Andrews, NC
are proud to welcome Senator Zell Miller to our stores to sign his new book, Purt Nigh Gone, about the disappearing "old mountain ways".

Saturday, June 6th - Murphy store (46 Valley River Ave.) from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. This will coincide with the Murphy Spring Festival in downtown Murphy.

Saturday, June 13th - Andrews store (1060 Main Street) from 11am-1pm.

Support Our Local Bookstores

Two Independent Book Stores - in Andrews NC and in Murphy, NC

This Friday (April 24th), the merchants in downtown Andrews will be having great sidewalk sales and displays for Earth Week. The Curiosity Shop Bookstore is having special sales, so please stop in and see them!

Saturday (April 25th), downtown Murphy merchants are featuring a town-wide sidewalk sale to benefit Relay for Life.
Stop in at The Curiosity Shop Bookstore and check out the special sale tables and purchase luminaries in honor of loved ones.

Songwriter and poet Bruce Piephoff will perform Friday, May 1st in Murphy - 7 to 9pm
He will perform Saturday, May 2nd in Andrews - 7 to 9pm

Murphy hosts musicians from 5-7 pm on Fridays (other than music nights)

LOOK WHO IS READING, SIGNING AND WHERE

The Curiosity Bookstore in Murphy, NC and in Andrews, NC welcomes author, Paralee Dawson this Saturday, April 11th
The book is Living A Dream -- reflections of her Appalachian Trail odyssey.

Paralee lives at our end of the trail for part of the year and the other end (Maine) for the rest of the year.
She will be showing videos and signing her book in Andrews NC from 11:am - 1:00 pm and in Murphy from 1:15 pm -3 pm.

Aaron Gwyn will be at Osondu's in Waynesville, NC on Saturday April 25th @ 11:00 a.m. The World Beneath is an eerie and deep mystery. In this book a 15 year old boy is missing and the sherrif is trying to find him.
Spaces are filling up for Kathryn Magendie's Book Launch reception on April 17th at Osondu's from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Kathryn's novel is Tender Graces. Looks like a most appealling book. Please call Osondu's to reserve your book and your spot at the reception.

Lonnie Busch signs books at Curiosity Books in Andrews, NC

Lonnie, who is also an accomplished artist, will be signing his novella, Turnback Creek, winner of the Clay Reynolds Novella Prize.

Book Signing at Curiosity Book Shop in Murphy



Saturday, July 26, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 pm Shirley Uphouse, author of My Friends, My Dogs, will sign her book at Curiosity Book Shop in Murphy, NC.

She is past Program Coordinator for Netwest and is a well-published writer of personal essays and short stories.


Uphouse has trained and exhibited her dogs for over forty years. Some of the breeds have been Beagles, Pomeranians, an Old English Sheepdog and currently two Australian Shepherds. She competed in conformation, obedience and agility. Uphouse has judged AKC shows for twenty years in twenty-five states from east to west coast and in Canada. Her book My Friends, my Dogs, offers many pictures and stories of the dogs of her life. There are also stories of dogs she has rescued. She looks forward to meeting other dog lovers.

JC Walkup and Paul Donovan will read at John C. Campbell Folk School on Thursday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Keith House.

JC Walkup, from Haywood County, NC says that "creative writing has been her life long avocation." Her short stories have been published in anthologies. She has written two novels and a stage play since her retirement three years ago. She serves in volunteer capacities in the community related to literacy, the libraries and writers' organizations. She is reading at John C. Campbell Folk School for the first time.

Paul Donovan, poet, from Murphy, NC, initiated an annual poetry and essay contest for students in Cherokee County, N.C. Paul has published an autobiographical book of poetry, Ramblings of an Idiot, and is published in journals and anthologies including Lights in the Mountains. He has spent the last three years, since becoming aware of the healing art of Reiki, writing poetry and essays from a more spiritual prospective. Paul is the host of Fireside Friday, a monthly reading sponsored by the Curiosity Book store at the Shoppes of Murphy.


Audiences at the Folk School are often made up of students, blacksmiths, quilters, jewelry makers, banjo players, dulcimer players and writers, who have come from all over the United States and even some foreign countries. They are always warm and open to the work of our writers.

The public and Netwest writers are urged to come, bring your friends and enjoy Paul and JC read their work. You will be glad you did.
